Manchester City's manager Enzo Marekasa reflected on his side's defeat to Arsenal (0-3) in the FA Community Shield during an appearance on BBC Radio 5 Live.
The Italian tactician highlighted how crucial moments significantly impacted the game:
'Conceding a goal just 25 seconds in, unfortunately, had a huge bearing on how the game unfolded at that stage. That said, the team's reaction after the first goal was quite decent; we had three or four opportunities to equalise before Arsenal netted their second. But once we conceded again, the situation became noticeably more complicated.'
On the early goal:
'Naturally, I'm disappointed with that. In matches of this level, the teams are evenly matched, and when you concede so early, it makes everything infinitely more challenging. However, our response to the first goal was good; we created chances, but going 0-2 down made it even tougher.'
Reflecting on the team’s overall performance:
'After the first goal, I was pleased that we didn't allow our opponents many opportunities and created three or four chances to level the game. Unfortunately, a mistake led to the second goal. But this is just the beginning; we kick off the Premier League next Sunday, and now our entire focus has to be on the league.'
On the road ahead:
'We've got a lot to fix. The season has just started, so there are numerous areas we need to improve on— though that’s something we have to work on even after winning.'
