Aston Villa have begun negotiations with Emiliano Buendia over a new contract. The Birmingham club is eager to keep hold of the 29-year-old Argentine, who has established himself as a key player for Unai Emery since 2026.
Buendia's current deal runs until the summer of 2027, although Villa have an option to extend it for an additional year. However, according to reports by the Daily Mail, the club is aiming to secure a longer-term agreement, and discussions are already underway.
Buendia's journey in Birmingham has been a challenging one. Following impressive spells at Norwich, it took time for him to consistently perform at his best with Aston Villa. Recently, however, the Argentine has stepped up and solidified his place in the team.
Emery has previously praised the midfielder for his dedication and work ethic.
The Villa boss stated:

When we decided to keep him here and he chose to stay, I was confident that he would deliver the kind of numbers he is achieving now.
Retaining Buendia is particularly crucial for Aston Villa following significant changes to the squad this past summer. Morgan Rogers has moved to Chelsea, Ezri Konsa has joined Arsenal, and Youri Tielemans is now a Manchester United player.
The club is now determined to avoid further losses of vital players, making a new long-term contract for Buendia a key priority for the hierarchy.
