Aston Villa agree transfer of Matteo Ruggeri from Atletico

Birmingham's Aston Villa have secured a deal with Atletico Madrid for the signing of left-back Matteo Ruggeri.

According to Marca, the transfer fee stands at €18 million, with an additional €6 million in potential bonuses. The move now hinges on final approval from the 23-year-old player himself, who appears to be leaning towards a switch to the Midlands club, beating out other contenders for his signature.

Signs of an impending departure were evident as Ruggeri did not travel with Atletico for their pre-season tour in South Korea. At Aston Villa, the defender will be tasked with filling the void left by Luca Digne, who is close to joining PSG.
