Former Manchester United player Ashley Young has weighed in on the unexpected transfer of 35-year-old striker Danny Welbeck from Brighton to Chelsea for £5 million.
The veteran has signed a two-year deal with the London side, as manager Xabi Alonso looks to inject some experience into his youthful squad.

Chelsea have made some good signings. Yes, this team really needed experience. Welbs is a very good friend of mine, and I’ve been speaking to him over the last couple of weeks. Of course, he’s buzzing. He’s really happy to have signed with Chelsea, especially at this stage of his career. He has proved himself time and time again.
Could he have gone to the World Cup with the national team? Perhaps I’m being biased, but I think he should have been included. He’s fantastic, and honestly, I’m very disappointed he didn’t return to Manchester United.
