Arsenal are looking to bolster their defensive and attacking options before the summer transfer window closes.
The Gunners have already secured the sale of Christian Nørgaard to Everton for £7 million and are close to completing the signing of Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. However, with William Saliba sidelined for an extended period due to a back injury, finding a new central defender has become a top priority for the North London side.
According to The Guardian, Arsenal's main target is Aston Villa and England defender Ezri Konsa. They will face competition from Liverpool, who are currently grappling with significant defensive woes: Virgil van Dijk remains absent following his participation in the World Cup, while Jeremy Doku and Joe Gomez have both picked up injuries, and Giovanni Leoni is still recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Aston Villa value the 28-year-old defender at approximately £60 million. However, Arsenal are not yet prepared to meet this asking price, especially considering that Konsa's current contract has less than two years to run.
