Former Chelsea defender William Gallas is confident that the transfer of 24-year-old midfielder Cole Palmer to Manchester United is just a matter of time.
Palmer is regularly linked with a potential move to Old Trafford following his impressive displays for the Londoners since his transfer from Manchester City in 2023. Meanwhile, the Chelsea management continues to view the Englishman as an untouchable player.
Commenting on the midfielder's future, Gallas said he does not expect a transfer in the current window but believes it is inevitable in the future:
I don’t think Cole Palmer will leave right now. This isn’t the right time. But he will definitely move to Manchester United in the future if he remains a big fan of the club and dreams of playing there.
He needs to have another strong season like he did two years ago, before his injury problems, and only then think about changing clubs.
At the same time, another former Chelsea defender Wayne Bridge urged Palmer not to rush into a decision and to stay at Stamford Bridge:
I understand these rumours, as Cole has really been a fan of United since childhood. But I would tell him: 'Look what happened to Mason Mount after his move. Don’t rush to leave.'
Chelsea hope that Palmer will remain a central figure in Xabi Alonso's project for years to come.
