Former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has lifted the lid on his controversial tenure at Stamford Bridge. During his appearance on the Obi One Podcast, the Portuguese tactician accused the club of creating a toxic atmosphere and expressed his shock over the actions of his assistant, Roberto Di Matteo, who took charge of the team behind his back.
Villas-Boas admitted that he was blindsided by Di Matteo's appointment, saying:
To not even be informed of his taking over my position was something I certainly did not expect from him.
The former boss also addressed the infamous tale involving John Terry about the team’s seating arrangement on a flight. He categorically denied the claims that he had sent senior players to economy class, emphasising that the decision to place academy graduates in first class was a strategic move aimed at unifying the squad.
Additionally, he recounted a fierce conflict with Ashley Cole just before a Champions League match against Napoli. Cole's jibes during a crisis meeting did not sit well with Villas-Boas, leading to his immediate exclusion from the starting lineup.
Villas-Boas managed the Blues for 40 matches in the 2011/12 season, achieving 19 wins, 11 draws, and 10 losses before being relieved of his duties.
