Trevo Chalobah is leaving Stamford Bridge. Insider Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Como has reached a verbal agreement with Chelsea for the transfer of the 27-year-old centre-back.
The fixed transfer fee will be €30 million, with an additional €6 million in bonuses, and the London club will retain a percentage of any future sale of the player. The defender is expected to travel to Italy for a medical examination as early as Wednesday evening or Thursday morning.
This transfer concludes a lengthy relationship between the player and Chelsea, which began in his childhood. Chalobah joined the club's academy at the age of eight. After loan spells at Ipswich, Huddersfield, and Lorient, he made his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace in August 2021, scoring instantly. In total, he made 151 appearances, scoring 8 goals and providing 3 assists for the Londoners.
The move to Como is largely influenced by the presence of Cesc Fabregas. The head coach of the Italian club worked with Chalobah during their time at Chelsea and personally insisted on this signing. Last season, Como finished fourth in Serie A, qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in their history, which was a decisive factor for the defender.
Milan's Inter also showed interest but pulled out of the race. The arrival of Xabi Alonso and the signing of Maxence Lacroix for £52 million left Chalobah out of the team's plans, which already includes Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, and Tosin Adarabioyo. For Chelsea, the sale of their academy graduate for a fixed fee of €30 million is a lucrative deal.
