Tottenham are ready to offer Dejan Kulusevski a new contract, provided the midfielder makes a successful return to the pitch after suffering a serious injury. The 26-year-old Swede is currently tied to the club until the summer of 2028.
Kulusevski has already resumed full training with the first team, but he has yet to feature in an official match this season.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham are in no rush to make a decision regarding the player's future. The club wishes to assess how Kulusevski performs upon his return before discussing a contract extension.
The midfielder has been recovering from a serious patellar injury, which has left the club with concerns over his physical condition and ability to get back to his best.
In his last complete season in the Premier League, Kulusevski scored seven goals and provided four assists.
A similar situation exists with James Maddison. His contract also expires in the summer of 2028, and his extended absence due to injury has impacted his status in Roberto De Zerbi's side. This season, the Englishman has played just 59 minutes in the Premier League.
Tottenham are currently protected by the long-term contracts of both players, so there is no immediate pressure to make decisions. However, the club is keen to avoid a situation where Kulusevski or Maddison could leave for free.
In the coming months, Kulusevski's physical condition will be crucial. If the Swede can play consistently following his return, Tottenham will be prepared to initiate negotiations for a new deal.
