The final punishment for Manchester City regarding financial violations may be revealed by the end of January. In the meantime, the club plans to appeal the decision of the independent commission.
According to The Guardian, several Premier League rivals believe that merely relegating City to the Championship is insufficient. They are advocating for sanctions that would keep the club out of the Premier League for several seasons.
However, other clubs have no authority to determine the punishment. The decision will be made by an independent commission.
Manchester City must submit their appeal by Friday. After that, there will be up to 12 weeks for hearings, followed by a maximum of 30 days for a decision to be reached. Consequently, the process could stretch until the end of January.
The club continues to deny any wrongdoing.
Former City boss Pep Guardiola has publicly backed the club and its current manager, Enzo Maresca:
I want every Manchester City fan to know: I am with you — now more than ever. I have always been and always will be alongside my club, the owner, the chairman, Ferran, the players, the staff, Enzo, and our unique fans.
Let me be clear: we will get through this together. I love you all.
