15-Second Brief
Former Manchester United midfielder Anderson reminisced about playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, naming the period between 2008 and 2009 as the peak of the Portuguese's career, highlighting his winner’s mentality and obsession with solo training.

Cristiano Ronaldo made his mark in England back in 2003, as Sir Alex Ferguson identified his immense talent and secured his signature from Sporting Lisbon. His time at Manchester United turned the promising winger into one of the most formidable goal-scorers the game has ever seen.

Now aged 41 and nearing the incredible milestone of 1000 career goals, Ronaldo’s journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. Former United midfielder Anderson reflected on the peak of Ronaldo's powers during an interview with GOAL, pinpointing a period that defined the Portuguese star's impact.

If you think about Cristiano Ronaldo in 2008 or 2009, when he was the standout player for Manchester United, it wasn’t just about the matches. It all started with his training. After sessions, you could see him working on his skills alone, trying this and that.

The Brazilian highlighted how Ronaldo dominated the pitch during those years, showcasing a completely different side than what fans have witnessed later in his career.

During that time, Cristiano was unique. He was ruthless. He would take on defenders one-on-one and obliterate them. When I played in the centre and Cristiano was on the flank, I didn’t even need to look. I’d just throw him the ball, knowing he’d beat his man. With that United attack, we always felt we were going to score.

Anderson believes that the 2007/08 season, in which Ronaldo netted 42 goals and claimed his first Ballon d'Or, marked the zenith of his career before the sensational move to Real Madrid.

There were times we’d be down 1-0 or 2-0, yet no one panicked because we knew Cristiano would step up and fix it. I truly think that year he was at the top of his game. Yes, he had phenomenal spells at Real Madrid, but he was simply astonishing during that time. In the semi-final against Arsenal, he was ridiculously good. Even before the game, he’d tell us not to worry, that we would win. The mentality of that team was to kill off the opponent. It was frightening to play against us.
