Stan Collymore has proposed that Manchester City be relegated from the top four tiers of English football to amateur levels due to financial violations.

Former Liverpool striker and England international Stan Collymore has made a bold claim regarding Manchester City's financial troubles, suggesting that they should be relegated far beyond the Championship.

In an interview with Canadasportsbetting, Collymore argued that merely sending City down to the Championship wouldn't be sufficient as they are likely to bounce back to the Premier League within a couple of years. Instead, he advocates for the club's exclusion from the entire English Football League (EFL), which would force them to rebuild from the bottom tier of non-league football.

This would send a powerful message: it doesn't matter what the club is called; what matters is what they have done, Collymore emphasised.

Aside from sporting sanctions, the former footballer suggested that all sponsorship income, prize money, and television revenues earned during the period of violations should be reclaimed from the club and redistributed among the teams affected.

It's worth noting that Manchester City have filed an appeal following an independent commission's decision, which found the club guilty of 114 financial breaches between 2009 and 2018. The hearings for this case are set to take place before Christmas.
