Football legend Ruud Gullit believes that Marcus Rashford's return from Barcelona will be Manchester United's best transfer. The forward has found excellent form in Spain, scoring 14 goals and providing 14 assists, ready to take on a key role in Carrick’s team.

Manchester United may have made the most significant signing of the summer by bringing back a player they know well — Marcus Rashford.

This is the view of legendary former footballer Ruud Gullit, who shared his thoughts in an exclusive interview with Sport Witness. He believes that the return of the 28-year-old forward to Old Trafford could prove far more pivotal than many might assume.

After a successful loan spell at Barcelona, where he netted 14 goals and provided 14 assists in 49 appearances, it was expected that the England international would remain in Spain. However, with the Catalans shifting their priorities towards Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi, Rashford found himself back at his boyhood club, where he is set to integrate into Michael Carrick's plans.

When asked which transfer in the Premier League impressed him the most this summer, Gullit responded:

Marcus Rashford, returning to Manchester United, could turn out to be the best 'transfer' of the summer in the Premier League. He learned a lot at Barcelona and played in Spain with much more freedom than ever before at Manchester United.

Was it his fault, or were there issues surrounding the club? It's easy to point fingers at the player. But if he performs at a high level elsewhere, it raises questions about the environment he was in before.

So this could be a fantastic step — both for Manchester United, if he stays and continues to play like he did in Barcelona, and for any club willing to take the risk on him.

On leadership and responsibility in modern football

Gullit also reflected on the modern footballers who resonate with him the most:

I don't particularly look at it through the lens of comparison with myself. Every player is unique, and I actually prefer watching those who are different from me — opposites attract! I simply admire players who take initiative and responsibility.

Jude Bellingham takes on responsibility. Rodri takes on responsibility. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo take on responsibility. I admire such players because they put themselves on the line, accept all the criticism, yet still deliver results. That’s what I truly respect.
