Madrid's Real has officially confirmed the transfer of their academy graduate, 22-year-old forward Gonzalo Garcia, to London club Fulham.
The forward has been in the Madrid club's system since the age of 10 (since 2014) and has progressed from the youth academy to the first team. While with the 'Galacticos', he won La Liga and the Club World Cup.
Transfer details and contract terms
The negotiation process concluded with the agreement on the following key terms.
Transfer fee: The fixed transfer fee is set at €40 million (around £34 million), with an additional €2 million available in bonuses.
Contract: The forward has signed a contract with the London club until June 2031, with an option for an additional year.
Real's rights: The Madrid club retains 30% of any future sale of the player, as well as a matching right should Fulham receive future offers.
Reunion with Alvaro Arbeloa
At Fulham, Gonzalo Garcia will be reuniting with Alvaro Arbeloa, who previously managed him in the youth system of Real and in the first team. Alongside Garcia, 21-year-old midfielder Cesar Palacios has also joined the London club from Madrid.
The statement from Real emphasises that the Santiago Bernabeu will always remain home for the forward, and the clauses in the contract keep the door open for a future return.
