Everton are on the verge of concluding negotiations with Arsenal for the transfer of 32-year-old Danish defensive midfielder Christian Nørgaard.
The clubs have fully agreed on the financial aspects: the compensation for the experienced midfielder will be £7 million, and the player has been given permission to undergo a medical examination on Merseyside before finalising the contract.
Reasons for the transfer and David Moyes's role
Head coach of the Toffees, David Moyes, has been searching for an experienced and reliable performer in the defensive midfield role following Idrissa Gueye's departure. The potential and professionalism of the Dane align perfectly with the coaching staff's requirements.
Experience and leadership: Prior to his move to Arsenal last summer, Nørgaard was the captain of Brentford for several seasons.
Professionalism: Mikel Arteta has repeatedly commended the midfielder's exemplary attitude towards training, describing his preparation approach as "model".
Financial feasibility: With a fee of £7 million, Everton are acquiring a proven performer from the Premier League with experience at the top level.
While at Arsenal, Nørgaard was a rotational player, featuring in around 20 matches in all competitions, and the arrival of new midfield reinforcements at the Gunners ultimately pushed the club towards selling the player.
Other transfer targets for Everton
Nørgaard could become the fourth new signing for Everton in the current window, following earlier deals for Merlin Rona, Tyrique George, and Hayden Hackney.
Meanwhile, the club is in talks with Celtic regarding the transfer of Canadian national team right-back Alistair Johnston, although an agreement has yet to be reached.
