Chelsea goalkeeper Philip Jorgensen has opened up about his decision to leave the club as early as January, citing limited playing time and stiff competition from Robert Sanchez as key factors.
Since January, I knew I wanted to leave. I wanted to play every weekend and showcase what I’m capable of,
Jorgensen told Tipsbladet.
If I could have played regularly at Chelsea, I would have liked to stay, but since that wasn't the case, I had to move on.
The Danish shot-stopper went on to explain that he had no intention of fighting for a spot in the team amidst the changing managerial landscape at Chelsea, as the decision to leave was made well in advance. This season, Jorgensen has appeared in five matches for Strasbourg on loan and has reclaimed his status as Denmark's first-choice goalkeeper. With Emiliano Martinez firmly established as Chelsea’s number one, Jorgensen’s prospects of returning to Stamford Bridge seem increasingly uncertain.
