Nottingham Forest manager Oliver Glasner has reflected on his side's 1-3 defeat to Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
The coach remarked that his team had ample chances to find the back of the net but ended up unable to capitalise.
'We should have won the match. We created so many chances — I've played many games here and I can’t remember a team creating this many opportunities. But in the end, we didn’t take them,' Glasner said in an interview with Sky Sports.
The coach pointed out that conceding two goals before half-time severely hampered Forest’s prospects. After that, they had two good opportunities but ultimately fell victim to a third goal.
'We conceded twice before half-time, then had two excellent chances. Following that, we allowed a comical goal and found ourselves in a 1-3 situation,' the manager added.
'The players gave everything they could'
Glasner admitted that the result was particularly painful given the quality of the performance and the number of chances created. However, he refrained from blaming his players and emphasised their commitment on the pitch.
'Today it feels like I’m the only one to blame. Call it karma or whatever you want, but I felt I didn’t deserve to win at Selhurst Park because the players did everything. There’s nothing to criticise the team for: they showed commitment and quality,' Glasner said.
Despite the setback, the coach suggested that such a performance could instill confidence in Nottingham Forest moving forward.
'A crazy match, but it's important to look beyond just the result. This performance should give us confidence, even if the final score seems strange at the moment,' he noted.
Glasner addresses Liam Delap's miss
The manager further discussed Liam Delap's missed opportunity, stressing he wouldn’t lay blame on the striker for the decision made.
'Around 90% of his goals are scored with power — it’s his strong suit. I don’t blame him. He knows he could have played it differently, but I think in ten similar situations, he’d score nine times,' Glasner explained.
The coach also commented on Crystal Palace's second goal, mentioning he hadn’t reviewed the incident yet and wasn’t ready to draw final conclusions.
In conclusion, Glasner expressed gratitude to the supporters from both sides for their backing.
