Newcastle United have expressed significant interest in 25-year-old Austrian defensive midfielder Nicholas Seiwald of RB Leipzig. According to insider Philipp Hinze from Sky Sport DE, the English club has made preliminary inquiries regarding the player's availability.
Magpies boss Matthias Jaissle is an admirer of the midfielder's talent, having previously worked successfully with him at Red Bull Salzburg. At this stage, the contact has only resulted in an initial inquiry, and there have yet to be any formal negotiations.
Jaissle is keen to bring Seiwald on board to strengthen the defensive midfield area and enhance the workload in the centre of the park.
The Austrian is a key part of Leipzig's tactical setup this season, with his contract running until 2028. For Newcastle to open full negotiations, they will need to put forward a substantial compensation offer.
Since his transfer from Salzburg for €20 million in 2023, Seiwald has made over 100 appearances for the Bundesliga club and established himself as a crucial defensive player for the Austrian national team.
