Former Manchester United coach Rene Molensteen believes Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay could be the ideal answer to Liverpool's midfield woes.
The 29-year-old has been in impressive form since his move to Serie A, helping Napoli secure a championship title and establishing himself as one of the top midfielders in Italian football. Over 80 appearances for Naples, McTominay has scored 27 goals and provided 10 assists.
Molensteen shared his thoughts in an interview with Daily Record:
Scott McTominay possesses qualities reminiscent of Gerrard, and he would fit perfectly at Liverpool; he's the type of midfielder who can deliver goals.
Despite Liverpool's pressing need for a goal-scoring and creative presence in the centre of the park after a somewhat underwhelming previous season, pulling off this transfer seems to be a daunting task. Napoli are not keen on parting ways with one of their key players.
Furthermore, McTominay's long-standing history with Manchester United creates a significant barrier to a switch to their fierce historical rivals.
