Former England striker Michael Owen has laid out an audacious forecast for the forthcoming Premier League season, declaring his belief that Arsenal will defend their title with ease while their main competitors are set for a steep decline.
The legendary ex-striker stated:
“All Arsenal need to do is maintain their current level, and they will win the Premier League again. I don’t see anyone being able to rack up 85 points, and the Gunners will undoubtedly hit that mark. They have such a stable squad, an excellent goalkeeper, and solid defence that I simply can’t envision them faltering. Other clubs have far too many questions marks, but everything is steady at Arsenal.”
Owen continued, raising doubts about the other big clubs: “Who has ever coped well after losing a legendary manager? Just look at Arsenal after Arsene Wenger departed — the next manager was mocked. The same goes for Manchester United after Sir Alex Ferguson. Replacing such giants is an incredibly tough task, so Enzo Maresca at City will have his work cut out. Moreover, selling Rodri will absolutely cripple them. I’m willing to risk it and say that City will end up outside the top 4 altogether, while Tottenham will push for third place — they are making smart signings and not distracted by European competitions.”
