Matthijs de Ligt is closing in on a return to the Manchester United squad. The defender has been impressing the coaching staff during full training sessions following a lengthy recovery from a back injury.
According to Roundtable, the 27-year-old Dutchman is looking sharp after stepping back into full training and is gradually regaining his match fitness.
De Ligt has not featured in an official match for Manchester United for over ten and a half months. In May, he underwent back surgery, leading to an extensive recovery process.
Recently, he managed to clock in some game time during a private friendly against Lausanne-Sport.
Manchester United's head coach Michael Carrick has urged caution regarding the defender's return. He stated that De Ligt is "continuing to work hard," but the club must carefully manage the final stages of his recovery.
