Manchester City's appeal regarding financial breaches is under threat due to Etihad Airways' position contradicting the club's defence strategy.

Manchester City's appeal against the Premier League's verdict on financial breaches is encountering significant challenges due to statements from the club's title sponsor, Etihad Airways. This is reported by talkSPORT.

An independent commission had earlier found that the owners of the Citizens, the Abu Dhabi United Group, had funneled hundreds of millions of pounds into the club over a nine-year period, disguising them as commercial income from sponsors. However, Etihad Airways has previously denied receiving any state funding for its dealings with Manchester City.

In its defence, the club planned to argue that the disputed amount of around £830 million came from the Abu Dhabi government, rather than the owners themselves. But the latest reports regarding Etihad's position throw this strategy into doubt, as it directly contradicts the airline's assertions. Manchester City is now expected to maintain that the state support received by Etihad has become part of the company’s overall finances, which supposedly does not undermine their stance.
