Louis Saha has expressed confidence that Chelsea can contend for the title in Xabi Alonso's inaugural season at the helm. The former forward deems the team's inconsistent play in midfield as their primary concern.
The ex-Manchester United striker shared his thoughts:
I believe Xabi Alonso can win the championship with Chelsea this season. He has enough strong players to build a solid team, and we’ve seen what he can do as a coach at Bayer Leverkusen. I was really impressed with how his team played.
They pressed high but also had a knack for controlling the midfield, and it was absolutely fascinating to watch them.
I hope Alonso can bring the necessary stability to the midfield with Moises Caicedo and other excellent players. They really are good, but they do make mistakes.
They lack the composure needed in those positions, and there are times when their positioning on the pitch causes issues. They tend to make mistakes at crucial moments, resulting in dropped points in matches they should win.
I hope Alonso can fix this because he fundamentally understands how to control the midfield.
