Liverpool are set to negotiate a new long-term agreement with young winger Rio Ngumoah in the near future. The club believes the 18-year-old will stay at Anfield and is expected to take on a more significant role in Andoni Iraola’s squad.
Ngumoah's current contract runs until the summer of 2028, yet both parties are looking beyond that timeframe. The player’s camp wishes for the new deal to reflect his rapid development and enhanced status within the first team.
Liverpool themselves are optimistic and view Ngumoah as a crucial part of their long-term project.
This season, the winger has made just one start in the Premier League but has been making regular contributions off the bench, solidifying his place in the squad.
Ngumoah's breakthrough came last season when he became Liverpool's youngest-ever goalscorer by netting a dramatic winner against Newcastle in August 2025.
He went on to feature in 19 league matches that season, and the club is keen to provide him with even more playing time moving forward.
Additionally, Ngumoah is increasingly making a name for himself at the international level with the England youth squads, further elevating his status within the club.
Despite ongoing changes to their attacking line, Liverpool did show interest in Ismaila Sarr over the summer, although the transfer did not materialise, leading them to secure the signing of Bradley Barcola instead.
Regardless of the competition, the plans for Ngumoah remain serious, with a new contract set to cement his place in the project for the years to come.
