Liverpool have initiated conversations with external candidates for their vacant sporting director position. One of the names in contention is Lee Dykes, the technical director at Brentford.
According to BBC, the club's hierarchy leans towards an internal appointment. The frontrunner for the role is current technical director Julian Ward, who could step up following the departure of Richard Hughes to explore opportunities at Al-Hilal.
FSG weigh up several options
The search for a new sporting director is being overseen by Mike Gordon, president of Fenway Sports Group.
Dykes isn’t the only external option Liverpool are considering. The club is also interested in Brentford's sporting director Phil Giles, but his exit from the club appears to be a complex scenario.
FSG have already held talks with multiple candidates, continuing to assess their options before a final decision is made.

Lee Dykes has been part of Brentford’s structure since May 2019, having a significant impact on shaping the club’s footballing system.
During his tenure, Brentford achieved promotion to the Premier League in 2021 and have managed to establish themselves in England’s top division.
