Former Manchester City keeper Joe Hart has reiterated his faith in the club's hierarchy despite the ongoing financial misconduct investigation. Hart insists that the recent controversies will not affect how he regards the trophies he won during his time with the team.
Hart was pivotal in Manchester City's success, helping them clinch the Premier League title twice in the 2011/12 and 2013/14 seasons, as well as lifting the League Cup on two occasions and the FA Cup once.
Commenting on club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak's insistence on Manchester City's innocence, Hart stated:
I've heard all these discussions and various versions. My opinion is simple: I have no reason not to trust Khaldoon. His words are enough for me.
I liked how he expressed himself. I appreciated his letter because it was clear that these were the words of someone who cares about the club.
Hart emphasised that he is awaiting an official resolution on the matter and is reluctant to discuss potential ramifications at this stage:
If Manchester City are found guilty, and at this moment I don’t think that will happen based on Khaldoon's comments, then it will be a different conversation.
But right now, I feel completely calm and confident. I am incredibly proud of what I've achieved and what we accomplished as Manchester City, and that won't change until I'm given a reason to think otherwise.
The former goalkeeper also pointed out that players were only accountable for what occurred on the pitch:
I did my job. We went out 11 versus 11 and played football. I won, lost, or drew, then shook hands with my opponents and walked off the pitch.
I know what I did and what we did. I understand how everything happened. There was no sense that we were involved in any sort of tricks or scheming.
Hart was with Manchester City from 2006 to 2018, spending the majority of that time as the team's first-choice goalkeeper.
