Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey has issued a stern warning to Alexis Mac Allister, urging the Argentine to stop complaining publicly about contract issues and demonstrate his worth on the pitch instead.
Mac Allister joined the Reds in the summer of 2023 alongside Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai. However, while his midfield partners secured new long-term contracts early in the season, the World Cup champion has yet to receive a fresh deal. Last week, Mac Allister couldn't hold back his frustrations, publicly voicing his irritation over the silence from the club hierarchy, hinting that he seriously considered leaving Anfield over the summer.
In an interview with PariuriX, Heskey didn't hold back in his criticism:
Alexis Mac Allister needs to step up on the pitch because quite frankly, his performances have been lacklustre. You can talk all you want, but actions speak louder than words. He's incredibly talented; we've all seen that, but we didn’t see that reflected in his performances for Liverpool last season.
The former England forward reminded the midfielder that past glories with the national team won't earn him any favours in the Premier League:
We've seen his class at the World Cup, but that was absent last season at Liverpool. So instead of complaining about not having a new contract, he needs to get out on the pitch and prove with his game that he deserves one. If he does that, the contract will come. Football has become a game of numbers and stats. The moment he starts delivering results, Liverpool’s hierarchy will have no choice but to acknowledge that he’s irreplaceable. They’ll look around and see that no one else is contributing as much and think, 'Let’s offer him another year or two.' Complaining is easy; doing the job is what counts.
