The Friedkin family, who own both Everton and Roma, have made a crucial move in the construction of a new stadium for the Italian side. Authorities have green-lit the technical and economic aspects of the arena project in the Pietralata area.
The family's investment in the project is set to exceed €1 billion, with Roma now needing to submit the final design. This is expected to happen by late 2026 or early 2027.
Stadium plans are particularly pertinent for Everton's owners, who recently transitioned from Goodison Park to the newly opened Hill Dickinson Stadium. It’s worth noting that the stadium construction was initiated by previous ownership, with the Friedkin family taking control as the project approached completion.
Now, the focus shifts to executing a major stadium project in Roma. The Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, expressed his gratitude to the club owners:
I thank Roma and the Friedkin family for their investments exceeding €1 billion and for the professionalism with which the project has been managed.
The new stadium, eagerly awaited since the days of Dino Viola, is now truly within reach.
According to Gualtieri, construction could begin as early as 2027:
We will now launch the tender. Construction could start in early 2027. According to the plan, the works are expected to take two and a half years, meaning the stadium could be ready by the end of 2029.
Italy’s Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, also highlighted the swift approval of the project. What typically takes around 270 days was completed in just 90.
Following Everton's move to their new arena, another club under the Friedkin umbrella is edging closer to securing a state-of-the-art stadium.
