Former Southampton and Italy forward Dani Osvaldo has been admitted to intensive care following an emergency operation in Buenos Aires.
According to America TV, Osvaldo was urgently hospitalised due to severe chest pains that had significantly worsened over the past week.
On Thursday, doctors found that he was suffering from a serious pleural effusion — a dangerous accumulation of fluid between the lungs and the chest wall.
Osvaldo required immediate surgery, during which surgeons removed a portion of lung tissue. After the procedure, he was transferred to intensive care, where he remains under close observation by specialists.
Born in Argentina, Osvaldo represented Italy at the international level. His club career included spells at Atalanta, Lecce, Fiorentina, Bologna, and Southampton, as well as loan stints at Juventus, Inter Milan, and Boca Juniors.
Osvaldo retired from professional football in 2016 to pursue a music career but made a brief return to the sport in 2020 with Argentine side Banfield.
