Chelsea's defensive struggles in the early stages of the 2026/27 season have come under intense scrutiny as Xabi Alonso navigates a rocky start. The Blues have failed to keep a single clean sheet so far, shipping 12 goals in just five Premier League matches.
Currently, they possess the worst defensive record in the league, consistently conceding easy goals. Their recent 3-0 thumping at the hands of Brentford has sent the team into the international break with plenty of questions to answer.
One individual who has faced the brunt of fan criticism is Levi Colwill, a regular starter under Alonso. The English defender has struggled to meet expectations, failing to maintain defensive structure and looking shaky since returning from a serious injury that limited his contributions for much of last season.

Colwill’s Chelsea career has been a rollercoaster: abysmal under Pochettino, a nightmare during the first half of Maresca's reign, excellent in the latter half under Maresca, decent in the nine matches last season, and now a total flop with Alonso. He has been poor 75% of the time he's been at the club.
