Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has made his first return to the club’s premises after an independent commission ruled the Citizens guilty of 114 out of 115 financial rule breaches. He was seen arriving at the Etihad Stadium on Monday against the backdrop of the continuing fallout from the scandalous verdict.
While most of the squad was away on international duty, players will start to filter back into Manchester this week. According to the Daily Mail, Maresca is set to hold a general meeting at the Manchester City Academy on Thursday to address his players. This will be a significant challenge for the newly appointed manager, who has enjoyed a perfect start with five wins from the opening matches, following his departure from Chelsea.
The independent commission ascertained that the club was guilty of 114 breaches spanning from 2009 to 2018, relating to financial reporting, sponsorship deals, and cooperation with the Premier League investigation. Manchester City has vehemently rejected the charges and filed an appeal, leaving the final punishment still to be determined as the process continues.
Maresca now faces pressure beyond the pitch as he will speak to the press for the first time on October 9, where he will inevitably be asked about the verdict and the ongoing appeal. Immediately after the international break, the team will face a daunting away fixture against Liverpool at Anfield on October 11, 2026.
