Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has expressed his desire to keep winger Ryan Mackadu in the first team for further development.
The Italian shared his plans ahead of the Community Shield clash against Arsenal.
Maresca, who has a wealth of experience working with youth, previously led the City reserves to a championship title.
Mackadu has made a strong impression during pre-season, particularly in a friendly against Inter Milan. The City boss is convinced that regular training with the first team will benefit the young talent.
“I think it’s best for him to stay with us, learn, and be in the first team every day,” Maresca said.
The Italian urged the youngster to absorb knowledge from more experienced teammates both on and off the pitch.
“Try to be smart, try to be clever, try to learn from Antoine, from Jeremy, from those who are here at the moment,” he added.
The manager emphasised the importance of developing not just technical skills, but also a strong work ethic.
“When I say ‘try to learn,’ it’s not just about how to carry the ball, but also about attitude and how to work hard,” the coach explained.
“Because sometimes it can get tough; they might stop working just because they feel ready, but that’s not the case. So it’s good that they keep learning,” the specialist concluded.
