Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has detailed his role in the Reds' revamped midfield structure under manager Andoni Iraola. The Hungarian international highlighted his willingness to adapt and play anywhere on the pitch, even as a right-back if necessary.
Szoboszlai provided insights into the new midfield setup:
From the outside, it might look different. We play with one 'six', one 'eight', and one 'ten'. The holding midfielder and central midfielder don’t line up together: the 'six' sits deeper, the 'eight' plays higher, while the 'ten' pushes even closer to the attack. It’s not a double pivot.
The young midfielder reminded everyone about his versatility and firmly defended himself against critics regarding his defensive performance:
Last week against Fulham, I played as an 'eight'. However, in my career, I've even been deployed as a right centre-back, as a 'six', and even on the wing as a 'seven'. I just want to be on the pitch. Perhaps my performance as a holding midfielder hasn’t been the best—I only won one out of ten duels. But if in the next match I win eight out of ten, does that suddenly make me a great 'six'? Football always requires balance.
