15-Second Brief
Liverpool defender Milos Kerkes has been implicated on the ‘Myrotvorets’ website alongside his father after a match with Ukraine. The incident stemmed from a social media post by his father featuring a Russian song. Kerkes has rejected any association with the conflict, prompting a statement from Hungary’s Foreign Ministry.

Liverpool's Milos Kerkes has been included on the Ukrainian website ‘Myrotvorets’, alongside his father, Sebastian. The saga erupted after a skirmish during the Hungary-Ukraine international clash, quickly escalating into a political storm that prompted intervention from Hungary's Foreign Ministry.

During the initial encounter between the teams, Kerkes was involved in a minor altercation with opposing players. Following the clash, his father took to social media to share an image of the incident, which was paired with a track by Russian rap group AK-47. Shortly thereafter, both father and son found their names listed on the controversial database.

The young defender, however, has been quick to distance himself from his father's actions, asserting that he has never supported the conflict in any capacity.

“In every football match, there’s always a bit of tension,” the 22-year-old explained. “In the game against Ukraine, I was just defending our captain, my friend. I would have acted the same way regardless of the country we were playing against.”

Kerkes firmly stated that he should not be held accountable for his father’s social media posts, saying:

“It’s important to understand: my father is not me. I cannot be responsible for his actions, whatever they may be.”

The situation has caught the attention of Hungary's Foreign Minister, Anita Orban, who condemned Kerkes's inclusion in such lists. She revealed that Hungarian officials have discussed the matter with representatives from Ukraine, the football federation, and diplomats.

“I strongly denounce the stigmatization, any form of blacklisting, and any potential threats against Hungarian citizens Milos Kerkes and Balazs Hidvegi,” Orban declared.

Moreover, she emphasised that ‘Myrotvorets’ is not an official Ukrainian state resource and that its administration remains unclear:

“I want to point out that this website is not an official state channel of Ukraine, and it remains uncertain who exactly runs it. Sport should be about results, unity, and respect.”

Thus, Kerkes's appearance on the list does not imply any formal sanctions from Ukraine. According to sources, he is not expected to face legal or sporting repercussions for this incident.

Kerkes has already made 35 appearances for the Hungarian national team. Notably, he missed the recent international fixture against Ukraine due to an accumulation of yellow cards, during which Hungary secured a 2-1 victory in his absence.
