David Seaman has identified Liverpool as Arsenal's main competitor in the race for the Premier League title. The former goalkeeper of the Gunners also expects a strong season from Manchester City, but has opted to rank Andoni Iraola's side higher.
Arsenal kicked off their title defence with a convincing 3-0 victory over Coventry. However, the form of their competitors and their pre-season state have not convinced Seaman.
The Arsenal legend shared his views:
Liverpool will gain momentum with their new manager and new signings. I expected Manchester United to perform much better, so I am disappointed.
The result of the Community Shield against Arsenal really disappointed me and somewhat altered my perspective.
When weighing up the teams chasing Mikel Arteta’s side, Seaman ultimately chose Liverpool:
I look at Liverpool. I still believe Manchester City will be strong, but I will go for Liverpool.
Iraola needs to get things right quickly. Liverpool have more quality and a deep squad. I think that will be enough for them to finish in second place.
This summer, Liverpool bolstered their defence with Jeremie Jaq and Ronald Araújo, while Victor Munoz joined the attacking line. Additionally, the Merseyside club are reportedly looking to strengthen their flanks, expressing interest in Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye.
