Chelsea have confirmed that Cole Palmer has left the England squad and will not participate in upcoming Nations League matches. The 24-year-old sustained a muscle injury and will focus on his recovery at the club.
Palmer had been included by manager Thomas Tuchel in the squad for the September-October window and was set to play in matches against Spain, the Czech Republic, and Croatia. England is also expected to face the Czech Republic again later in the campaign.
Palmer returns to Chelsea
According to official information from the England camp, Palmer was one of five players who had to withdraw from the squad due to various injuries. Alongside him, Tino Livramento, Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford, and Declan Rice have also dropped out.
Chelsea confirmed that instead of travelling with the national team, Palmer will continue his recovery work at the club.
At the start of the season, Palmer was in good form, having featured in seven matches across all competitions, scoring four goals and providing two assists.
For England, his absence represents a significant loss for their attacking options ahead of the new Nations League campaign.
Who will replace Palmer?
In light of the withdrawals, Tuchel has called up Morgan Gibbs-White and James Garner to join the squad at St George's Park.
England's first match in the new Nations League campaign will take place on September 26 against Spain at Wembley.
