England manager Thomas Tuchel has expressed his frustration over Cole Palmer's ongoing injury woes. The 24-year-old Chelsea player misses yet another national team gathering due to a muscle injury.
Palmer started the season brightly, netting four goals in seven matches for the Blues. However, his health issues have kept him sidelined from the national team for the Nations League fixtures.
Tuchel remarked:
This is definitely another missed opportunity for Palmer. He's missed far too many of these chances, and I don’t blame him for that. It’s just a fact. He’s missing too many camps due to injuries.
I want to rely on what I see in my own team, and for that, you need to be at the camps.
Tuchel explained how Palmer's absence hinders his chances of solidifying positions in the England squad:
If you're not present at the camps, you can’t take your game to the next level and impress. That can only be achieved when you’re out there with me and the team on the pitch. So yes, it’s a missed opportunity.
The German manager also provided insight into Palmer's fitness:
From what I understand, he’s been playing while experiencing discomfort and pain. Performing at the highest level in that state is impossible. Therefore, he withdrew from the camp, notified us, and Chelsea informed us of this too. That’s my understanding of the situation.
In light of yet another injury setback, there have been rumours regarding Palmer’s future. Manchester United have been linked with a potential transfer, but reports suggest that the midfielder is fully focused on Chelsea and isn’t considering such talks as a reason to change clubs.
Palmer is also keen to establish himself in the England setup as a key player for Euro 2028. His primary aim is to be able to go through long stretches of the season without injuries.
