Sporting director Laurence Stewart will soon leave Chelsea by mutual agreement. The club plans no direct replacement: Sam Jewell and Joe Shields will take on more responsibilities. The changes follow Todd Boehly's exit.

Chelsea continue to reshape their club hierarchy. Sporting director Laurence Stewart will depart from Stamford Bridge shortly by mutual agreement.

Journalist Nizar Kinsella has reported:

The sporting director of Chelsea, Laurence Stewart, is set to leave the club by mutual consent. Stewart is leaving on good terms with the club, but this is also part of a shift in the sporting leadership structure.

Interestingly, Chelsea will not look for a direct replacement for Stewart. His responsibilities will be redistributed within the existing structure.

Kinsella added:

Sam Jewell and Joe Shields will take on greater responsibilities, but there will be no direct successor to Stewart.

Stewart joined Chelsea in 2022 and played a crucial role in shaping the club's transfer policy. During his tenure, the Blues spent significant sums on young players, yet this strategy has faced its fair share of criticism.

This impending departure of Stewart marks yet another significant shift in Chelsea's upper echelons. Recently, Todd Boehly sold his stake and exited the club, having previously co-owned it with Behdad Eghbali and Clearlake Capital.

With Stewart's departure, Jewell and Shields will gain additional authority, while Chelsea looks to operate under a revamped sporting structure.
