Bruno Fernandes and Patrick Dorgu have picked up injuries while on international duty, with Portugal coach Jorge Jesus confirming Fernandes' injury. This creates serious selection headaches for Michael Carrick.

Bruno Fernandes and Patrick Dorgu have added to the list of players enduring injury woes during the international break. This scenario poses a major issue for Michael Carrick, considering Manchester United's challenging start to the season.

The absence of team captain Fernandes could be a particularly severe blow for the Red Devils. Portugal's head coach, Jorge Jesus, confirmed at a press conference that Fernandes picked up a serious injury in the match against Wales.

The medical team flagged both Bruno and Patrick as the most concerning cases. One of them might be available for selection, and that is Nuno Mendes. The availability of the other will depend on treatment, today’s procedures, and how much recovery time Bruno may require — and whether he can recover at all.

Jesus added that the 32-year-old midfielder had been playing through pain. It’s likely he will miss Portugal's Nations League clash against Denmark this Thursday. So far this season, Fernandes has netted four goals and provided one assist in seven appearances for Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Patrick Dorgu sustained a non-contact injury within the first 30 minutes of Denmark's victorious match against Wales on Sunday.

With Luke Shaw already missing games due to health issues, and the club not signing a new left-back during the summer, it’s crucial for Dorgu to stay fit. Otherwise, Carrick might have to deploy 19-year-old Harry Amass on the left flank or shift right-back Noussair Mazraoui into that position.
