In a busy fifth round of the Premier League, several English clubs were in action. Brighton decisively beat Arsenal 3-0, Everton narrowly defeated Ipswich Town, and Newcastle triumphed over Hull City.
Brighton 3 - 0 Arsenal
Arsenal suffered their first defeat of the season in a surprising manner, going down to Brighton. The hosts opened the scoring on the 31st minute as Pascal Gross converted after a neat pass from Charmapolos Kostoulas.
Just before the break, Kostoulas doubled Brighton's lead, finding the back of the net following a delivery from Diego Gomez.
The second half saw Arsenal’s woes compound as Chema Andres struck the third goal for Brighton on the 57th minute.
Manager Mikel Arteta looked to alter the game with substitutions, bringing on Martin Meritno and Martin Subimendi, later followed by Victor Djoekere and Eze Eze. However, the Gunners were unable to claw back into the match.
Everton 1 - 0 Ipswich Town
Everton managed a slender victory over Ipswich Town.
The only goal of the match came early on the 11th minute when Tierno Barry found the net after a pass from James Tarkowski.
Ipswich had a chance to level the scores just before the break, but Yoane Wissa missed a penalty in stoppage time.
Despite some chances in the second half, Ipswich couldn't find a way back into the match, with Everton holding their narrow lead to secure the win.
Newcastle 2 - 1 Hull City
Newcastle started with an explosive pace, racing to a 2-0 lead within just seven minutes.
Joa Willock opened the scoring in the third minute, followed shortly by Lewis Hall extending their advantage.
Hull City fought back in the second half, with Mohamed Cho reducing the deficit in the 67th minute thanks to a pass from Mohamed Bellumi.
Despite their efforts, Hull couldn’t level the match, and Newcastle held on to claim a 2-1 victory.
