Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that the fitness of Bruno Guimaraes for the Gunners' Premier League opener against Coventry City is in doubt. The Brazilian midfielder was substituted during the half-time break in the Super Cup victory over Manchester City and was spotted with ice on his leg following the match.
When questioned about the player’s condition, the Gunners' boss refrained from providing a definitive update.
“We’ll see how he is. He’s recovering very well, but let’s wait until tomorrow,” Arteta stated.
The manager also praised the impact of new signings on the squad, including Guimaraes, who joined the North London club for a hefty £75 million. Arteta believes these fresh additions are driving up competition within the team.
“That’s what new transfers bring: new energy. They have something to prove. Competition is key. When you talk about players like Christos or Illan from day one, it raises the level,” the Spanish coach added.
