Arsenal are nearing the completion of their key defensive transfer target. Both TEAMtalk and Football Insider report that the transfer of 28-year-old central defender Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa is 99% complete.
The England international has officially informed the Birmingham club of his desire to continue his career in North London. Talks between the two clubs are in the final stages, with the fee believed to exceed £50 million.
Konsa's versatility, allowing him to perform at a high level as both a central defender and on the right flank, makes him an ideal candidate for Mikel Arteta’s system. Arsenal had also been weighing up moves for Jules Kounde from Barcelona and Jarell Quansah from Bayer, but Konsa has always been at the top of their wishlist.
In addition to boosting their defence, Arsenal are also working on bringing in an elite left winger and a new central striker before the transfer window closes.
