New Tottenham signing Andy Robertson has revealed that he has regarded the London club as his preferred option for some time now, dating back to January.
The Scottish defender noted that much hinged on whether Tottenham could secure their place in the Premier League. Robertson admitted that in the final months of the season, he even began following the team's results closely, genuinely concerned for their fate.
'It always had to be Tottenham'
Robertson disclosed that the decision was practically set in stone back in the winter months.
'It always had to be Tottenham, since January, provided they stayed in the Premier League.'
The defender was so keen on making the switch that he found himself keeping up with the Spurs' matches.
'I even started worrying about Tottenham and watching their games, thinking: 'Come on, come on.' Especially after De Zerbi came in; I was completely convinced. I was really happy with how keen Spurs were to sign me.'
