Monaco midfielder Denis Zakaria has voiced his support for teammate Lamin Kamara, whose highly publicised move to Chelsea fell through in the final hours of the transfer window.
The Monégasques were keen to offload the Senegalese midfielder on deadline day, but at the last minute, the club's hierarchy unexpectedly blocked the deal. Earlier, Monaco's CEO Tiago Scuro had openly confirmed that the 22-year-old had personally requested permission to head to Stamford Bridge.
Kamara himself has stated that he has moved on from the situation, having discussed the matter with Zakaria, who has previous experience playing for Chelsea on loan.
In a light-hearted exchange with the press, Zakaria commented on their conversation in the mixed zone:
Chelsea? I told him it was decent there, but we've got it much better here.
Following Monaco's victory over Lens (2-1), Zakaria praised the mental strength of his clubmate:
I know him well, both as a player and a person. He's an incredible professional. I think this transfer saga has only added to his competitive edge and determination. He was simply phenomenal on the pitch today.
