Aston Villa manager Unai Emery expressed his emotions after the team's 2-1 defeat to PSG in the UEFA Super Cup.
The Spaniard also discussed his selection choices and the preparation for the upcoming Premier League season.
"It’s impossible to be satisfied after a defeat, but we should be incredibly proud of how we fought, of how the players conducted themselves on the pitch for the full 90 minutes, and the chances we created to score. We must take pride in what we achieved today," said Emery.
Emery then turned his focus to the young players and the imminent return of key team members.
"Maddah and Hemmings? Their experience and days like today are very important. They illustrate how players advance through hard work. This is the right path. Before the match, we decided how we wanted to approach this game, and we worked closely with the players on those positions. Martinez, Konsa, and Watkins? They will join us after this match, and we will have our final friendly on Saturday. They won't play in that, but will begin training with us. We wanted to give them four weeks of rest because the season was very demanding. We believe it’s better to work with players who are in good physical condition. Overall, we can take pride in everything we've done. Some changes are needed, but we are confident in ourselves. Transfers? There will be further adjustments," concluded the manager.
