Defender Trevo Chalobah has officially left Chelsea after nearly 20 years in the club’s ranks.
The English player will continue his career at Italian side Como, who are set to compete in the Champions League this season, showcasing their ambition.
Chalobah, affectionately known as Trev at Cobham, shared a heartfelt farewell message with the Blues' supporters.
“After 18 years, it’s time to say goodbye to Chelsea. I came as a nine-year-old boy with a dream and leave as a man who has lived that dream in ways I could never have imagined. This journey has tested me, elevated me, and made me stronger. To every teammate, coach, staff member, and fan — thank you for shaping me. I gave everything I had, and I’m proud of who this club has helped me become. To the young players: the path won’t always be smooth. But be ready, stay positive, and don’t lose faith. God's timing is always right. Thank you all, sincerely, with love and gratitude,”
Chelsea's press office also released a comprehensive statement regarding their academy product's departure.
“Trevo Chalobah has completed a permanent transfer to Como, marking the end of his time as a Chelsea player after nearly two decades with the Blues.”
“Chalobah joined Chelsea at the age of nine, following in the footsteps of his elder brother Nathaniel. He progressed through our Academy and was a crucial part of the team that won the UEFA Youth League in 2016. Chalobah also lifted the FA Youth Cup twice in succession, scoring in both the semi-final and final in 2017.”
“This was followed by a string of successful loan spells in senior football with Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town, and Lorient, before Chalobah established himself as a regular member of the Chelsea squad shortly after turning 22.”
He made an immediate impact, making his debut in style by winning the Super Cup in Belfast after a penalty shootout against Villarreal. A few days later, he marked his Premier League debut with a thunderous strike as Chelsea thrashed Crystal Palace 3-0.
Chalobah's versatility and composure on the big stage were impressive, starting in the finals of both the League Cup and the FA Cup in his debut season, managing to keep clean sheets in both matches, though the trophies eluded him. However, he did taste success as a winner of the FIFA Club World Cup.
The next two seasons saw him rack up 50 appearances across competitions — a figure that would have surely been higher had he not suffered a hamstring injury ahead of the 2023/24 season. Chalobah finished that campaign strongly, with his return to the squad helping Chelsea secure victories in their last five league matches, including a crucial goal against Tottenham that ensured European qualification.
The first half of the 2024/25 season saw Chalobah on loan at Crystal Palace, after which he returned to Stamford Bridge to help Chelsea secure another two trophies. Notably, he played the full 90 minutes in Wroclaw as they defeated Real Betis 4-1 in the final of the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Weeks later, he made his debut for the senior England team, and during an extended Club World Cup in the USA, he made five appearances, contributing to the team's trophy lift as they celebrated victory. He started in the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final of the tournament, with just one goal conceded in the first of those matches.
Last season, Chalobah featured in 47 matches — more than any other central defender for Chelsea — scoring three goals. He was a last-minute call-up to the England squad for the World Cup, where he made one appearance, as the Three Lions finished third.
A lifelong Chelsea fan, Trevo always wore the blue shirt with pride. His unwavering commitment and friendly disposition endeared him to fans, teammates, and coaches alike throughout his time at the club.
