England manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed that the independent commission's decision regarding Manchester City is one of the major talking points amongst the national side.
The investigation pertains to alleged financial rule breaches in the Premier League from the 2009/10 season through to 2017/18. Manchester City are set to appeal the decision, indicating that this saga could stretch on well into 2027.
Inside the current England squad are two City players — Elliot Anderson and Marc Guéhi. Nico O’Reilly was initially called up but had to leave due to injury.
Tuchel confirmed that the players are indeed discussing the matter, including conversations with Manchester City’s own representatives:
This is something everyone is talking about, so another opinion isn’t needed. I'm glad I don't have to be that voice. Nobody wants my surface-level knowledge on this topic.
Of course, the players are discussing it. The City boys are in on it too. We’ve had a little chat with them, but it was brief. It’s a huge topic within the team.
Tuchel, however, refrained from offering his own opinion on the case, stating that he doesn’t have enough information to provide detailed commentary.
As it stands, Manchester City intend to appeal the commission’s decision, meaning this issue is far from settled.
