Sunderland pull the plug on Miguel Chaiwa interest after Jules Ahouke transfer

Sunderland have officially abandoned their pursuit of 22-year-old Zambian defensive midfielder Miguel Chaiwa.

Initially considered a contingency plan by the Black Cats' coaching team, Chaiwa's interest has waned following the club's announcement that they secured Belgian midfielder Jules Ahouke from Antwerp, thereby filling their defensive midfield role.

However, the Zambian remains a hot commodity in the transfer market, with Scottish side Celtic expressing keen interest. As of August 2026, Hibernian have reportedly set Chaiwa's valuation at a minimum of £4 million.
