Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard shared his honest thoughts about his career at Anfield.
The former midfielder admitted that his time at the club was fraught with challenges, despite the unforgettable successes he experienced.
Speaking on LFCTV, Gerrard explained that fans often only see the glamorous side of a footballer's life.
"Playing for Liverpool is tough. When you give interviews and talk about all the good times, people from the outside probably don’t understand and appreciate that playing for Liverpool is also a hard challenge," he said.
The ex-captain emphasised that life in the team wasn't solely about triumphs. Players had to grapple with difficult periods and disappointments.
"Not every day is great. I’m not just talking about the on-pitch performances, but the journey itself, with its ups and downs, failures and bumps in the road," he added.
Throughout his career, Steven faced off against some of England's strongest teams — Arsenal under Arsene Wenger, Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United, Chelsea managed by Jose Mourinho, and Manchester City.
He came closest to winning the title during the 2013/14 season, but in a critical moment, the team let the trophy slip away.
"One of the most unpleasant feelings I experienced was when we got so close but couldn’t achieve it in the 2013/14 season," the Englishman recalled.
Now, a decade after leaving the club, Gerrard addresses those challenges with a different perspective.
"Looking back on the good times, I now appreciate that the tough, crappy days are worth it for the great moments and accomplishments," he concluded.
