Rui Pinto, the architect behind Football Leaks, whose exposés initiated an extensive probe into financial mismanagement at Manchester City, has had his protected witness status revoked by Portuguese officials merely days after the club was found guilty of various offences.
The 37-year-old Pinto had been under witness protection since 2020, but now faces restrictions on social media use and must remain vigilant, especially following a physical assault he endured in Lisbon last April.
On social media, he described the recent ruling against City as a historic moment for English football:
Years and years of fraud, lies, and manipulation are finally going to have consequences.
Furthermore, Pinto did not hold back in his criticism of FIFA president Gianni Infantino, accusing him of previously shielding Manchester City and PSG from UEFA sanctions, even going so far as to label him a cancer within the sport.
Meanwhile, Manchester City must submit an appeal by Friday, October 2, against a ruling that accused them of concealing over £900 million in funding.
